Good morning! I spent last night in New York City at the Grolier Club for the 2013 Beach Book Festival Award Presentations. My debut novel, Red Tape, won an award. It was a thrilling experience, and I was literally on top of the world since this was my first award. We took the train in from New Jersey, then took a taxi over to the Club. When we arrived, I met another Book Festival Award-winning author, Benji Alexander Palus. Benji had flown in from New Orleans. I asked him what he was going to say during his 1-minute speech, as I had not prepared anything myself. He said he didn’t know and that he was just going to see what others did. Much to his surprise, he was first on the list to receive his award. While this made him nervous, he was witty and funny. He did a great speech…as did the next three winners, which then made me nervous, because I had not prepared anything! I was fourth to the microphone, and as luck would have it, something came out of my mouth that made the crowd laugh, thank goodness! I was short and sweet, then took my seat!
While I was there, I met so many other talented individuals with great novels and children’s books from all over the United States. My loving husband was there supporting me the whole time…it was truly a great date night for us! I left the little one with grandma and grandpa for only the 2nd time overnight in her short life. It was an experience I won’t soon forget.
So, in honor of the award I received, I’ve put Red Tape on sale from now through Monday for 99 cents!
